A fraction denotes a part of a whole. The denominator (“bottom number”) is the total number of parts, and the numerator (“top number”) is the number of parts we are talking about. For example, if you cut a cake in 4 parts and share 3 of those parts with your friends, you’re giving away 3/4 of the cake. In these printables, the tick marks on each number line represent fractions. And you can see how two or more fractions equal the same, like 1/2, 2/4, 3/6, and 5/10. Here you can find blank worksheets to show and practice improper and mixed numbers on a number line. A proper fraction is a number that is smaller than 1, and the numerator (“top number”) is always smaller than the denominator (“bottom number”). For example, 1/4 is a proper fraction. If the fraction is greater than 1, it’s called an improper fraction, and the numerator is always bigger than the denominator. For example, 5/4 is an improper fraction. An improper fraction is a number that is larger than 1 and can be written as the sum of two fractions, the numerator (top number) and denominator (bottom number). A mixed number contains a whole number and a proper fraction. For example, 2 1/2 would be a mixed number.
Here you can find multiple blank worksheets for practicing fractions. They all have a straight line divided into equal parts. Just count how many equal parts are on the line to find the denominator. And to see the numerator move forward on the line. For example, if you draw 5 equal parts, the denominator is 5. And if you go three marks to the right on the line, the numerator is 3. And that tick mark then shows a fraction of 3/5.
Here are two empty number line worksheets that come without tick marks. Just draw an equal number of parts on the line – that will be the fraction’s denominator. And depending on how many parts from left to right you count, that will show the numerator. For example, if you draw 4 equal parts, the denominator is 4, and if you count forward 3 of those parts, the numerator is 3. Mark the point on the line as 3/4.
